ABSTRACT
Sepsis is a very common disease. It incidence is rising, but not only in increasing the mortality also in cost. It's the first cause of death in critically ill patients, despite advances in medical care and technology development, the mortality remains high and the treatment ineffective.Given the diversity of signs and symptoms presents in sepsis, all of it determined by the infection of basic signs and symptoms of systemic inflammatory response syndrome and various dysfunctions in the patient, they were grouped together in an attempt to approach sepsis, it called PIRO.
The treatment of this condition can be defined in two parts, one directed towards the treatment of infectious site which led the origin of clinical sings and it's treatment and support of the metabolic, hemodynamic and organ dysfunction occurring in the course of severe sepsis.
An international group of specialists in critical care and infectious diseases have developed guidelines for the clinical use to produce a diagnosis and treatment and thereby improve outcome in severe sepsis, they make recommendations based on evidence regarding many aspects of acute management of sepsis is expected to have an impact in improving outcomes in critically ill patients.
