ABSTRACT
Introduction. Child obesity index has been grown in last years, not only in developed countries but in our country too.
Material
and methods. A prospective, longitudinal, observational, study of 292 children in elementary school “Dr. Agustin Rivera” of the
Public Education Secretariat; weight, height and body mass index were carried out, these parameters were used to classify
nutritional status of children.
Results. One hundred and twenty nine children had overweight and obesity, this show a rate of
44.1%, another parameters were analyzed such as type of feeding, how many meals they have in a day, socioeconomic environment,
familiar antecedents, hours of physical activities by week, hours of TV during a day, and we found relevant familiar antecedents
as diabetes mellitus type II, high blood pressure, obesity, as soon as high intake of carbohydrates and elevated index of sedentary
behavior.
Conclusion. In view of this panorama, implementation of preventive measures to reduce the child obesity rate, guided
to correct life style habits in children and their feeding behavior is urgent.
