ABSTRACT
Introduction. The initial data came from the residents, who said that the academic activities of specialties were poorly systematized
and that their schedule, regularity and quality were variable.
Objectives. 1. Get to know the education activities of specialty
courses at Hospital Juarez de Mexico. 2. Suggest changes. A monthly survey was conducted to capture data of education activities
for each service by means of a letter and a monthly reminder.
Results. Results show that only two services, Anatomic pathology
and Orthopedics, presented their report every month; two specialties did not reply; half of the remaining 16 services answered a
mean of three times. The bibliographic and clinical case sessions are the most frequent ones, while cultural sessions and those
aimed at the preparation of thesis were seldom held.
Conclusions. The report of the academic and educational activities by the
specialties should be a regular exercise. Education relies mainly on the discussion of clinical cases; few sessions are devoted to
the review of dissertation protocols. To upgrade the education, an appropriate balance must be sought among the various types of
sessions.
