ABSTRACT
Dengue is a mosquito-borne infection that causes a mild to moderate disease and, occasionally, a potentially lethal complication called dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF / DHF / dengue severe). In recent decades it has become an international public health problem, by its most severe (DH / DHF). The high incidence in 2009 prompted the state government to implement actions Colima, as the centerpiece of public policy, and invest in research and prevention implemented in 2010 and amended in 2011 as a result of evidence generated in the previous year. The modified strategy to combat dengue was more effective in achieving and exceeding goals set: the incidence decreased from 81.4% in 2010 to 79.1% from 2010 to 2011. The positive house index was at 0.5% in 2010 and 0.6% in 2011, the positive container 0.2% in both years and Breteau by 0.7% in 2010 and 0.8% in 2011.
Axis interventions that were part of the strategy (spraying homes, sanitation sessions, social and educational communication) substantially modified the behavior of the cases in the 24 months of 2010 and 2011, decreasing them to no more than ten per week, eliminating the "peak" of cases that had been recorded in the rainy season resulting from the transmission of dengue. Two years of implementing the strategy shows a flattening of dengue cases, regardless of the rainfall in the state, which is derived from vertical transmission of dengue in the state. The action axis control vertical transmission of dengue was established barrier spraying homes with probable cases, the foregoing without prejudice to basic sanitation actions, research, surveillance, social and educational communication.
In the last two years the incidence of dengue in Mexico declined in relation to the cases recorded in 2009. At the beginning of 2012 cases increased nationally, but not in the state of Colima, which maintains the downward trend of cases of classic and hemorrhagic dengue. It will be necessary to continue with assessments in 2012 and 2013, to know the result of the actions of the strategy axis.
