ABSTRACT
Introduction: Scientific and technological advances allow treatment alternatives to the person with valvular replacement and atrial fibrillation, however, is exposed to develop complications arising from oral anticoagulants that undoubtedly affect their quality of life.
Objective: Analyze the quality of life of the people with valvular replacement and atrial fibrillation treated with oral anticoagulants.
Material and methods: Analytical study, prospective, cross sectional. Probability sample (n = 205) included adults, both sexes, with valvular replacement and atrial fibrillation treated with oral anticoagulants. Data collected with the quality of life scale of 32 items and Likert responses distributed in 5 dimensions: satisfaction, self-efficacy, psychological stress, daily restrictions and social disturbances; the resulting scale is from very bad quality of life, bad, normal, good and very good quality of life. Statistical analysis with frequencies, percentages, Pearson test (age, size, time of diagnosis and treatment) and Students t (diagnosis, origin, and sex).
Results: The 55% with valvular replacement, 65.4 % women; average age for 60 years; 59.5 % of the rural areas, the majority are married (56.6 %) and 54.6 % dedicated to the home. The 83.4 % have quality of life from normal to good and 12.2 % bad quality of life, associated with psychological stress (r = 0,899, p ‹ 0.000 ) and daily restrictions (r = 0.815, p ‹ 0.000 ); there was no significant relationship with age, time of diagnosis and treatment. It was observed a better quality of life in people with valvular replacement (t = 0.394, gl = 203, p = 0.694), the men (t = -0.564, gl = 203, p = 0.573) and the urban area (t = 0.312, gl = 203, p = 0.755), without being statistically significant.
Conclusions: The majority of the population has a quality of life normal, in the people with valvular replacement increases slightly; the psychological state and the daily restrictions affect primarily the quality of life.
