ABSTRACT
One of the most important advances of contemporaneous medicine is related to the recognition of reversibility of sudden death. Just about 40 years ago the techniques for cardiopulmonary and cerebral resuscitation (CPCR) had an independent development. The integration of the pro-cess, basic life support (ABC) and advanced life support (DEF), has resulted in the birth of reanimatology. The reanimatology and basic investigation in which CPCR is sustained, has improved our capacity to understand the procceses of death and damage due of tissue reperfusion. The new acquired knowledges are applied daily in many hospitals and emergency services. The information has been obtained due to the talent and ability of clinicians, inves-tigators, medical associations, and by the use of modern devices to train the vital support providers.
In our country the development, training and diffusion of the CPCR are still incipient spite of the wide teaching programs sponsored by public and private health ins-titutions. The purpose of this work is spread the history of cardiopulmonary and cerebral resuscitation as an update subject linked to the development of medicine.
