ABSTRACT
Objective: To know the use of invasive accesses and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in three ICUs. Design: Descriptive study. Setting: Two polyvalent ICUs and one oncologic ICU, Mexico City. Patients: A total of 1,374 patients were enrolled (730 women, 644 men, mean age 52.4 ± 19.6 yrs.). Interventions: None. Measurements and main results: ICU stay was 5.3 ± 6.4 days (1-60 days) and APACHE II score was 15.3 ± 7.6 points (0-50 points). The following were the more frequently therapeutic and intervention procedures used during ICU stay: vesical catheter, drainage of surgical wound, endotracheal tube, nasogastric tube and subcla-vian venous catheter (invasive accesses); CT scann, gastrointestinal endoscopy, corporal punctures, echocar-diography and bronchoscopy (diagnostic procedures); and mechanical ventilation, blood transfusion, plasma transfusion, enteral nutrition and surgery (therapeutic procedures). Conclusion: To know the frequency of utilization of therapeutic and interventions procedures in national ICUs could improve the use of resources.REFERENCES
