ABSTRACT
Thyroid nodules are a common pathology. The primary goal of studying a thyroid nodule is to exclude malignancy. A thorough medical history and physical exam should be performed, focusing on family history of cancer and the characteristic of the gland. Ultrasound an cytology are the mainstay in the workup of a thyroid nodule since they allow us to determine the risk of malignancy. CT and MRI may be necessary in some cases to evaluate the extension of the pathology. Based on the results of the cytology we will know what the next step is in the patient’s management. Surgery with radio iodine ablation is crucial in the treatment of thyroid carcinoma.REFERENCES
