ABSTRACT
Obesity is a key factor of metabolic syndrome and has
been described as a public health problem in Mexico
and industrialized countries. In order to treat obesity
we need to understand the risk factors involved in the
development of this illness. Leptin is the obesity gene
product, which is the hormone responsible for
maintaining energy homeostasis. The aim of this review
is to describe the signaling pathway of leptin and
participant mediators, as well as to determine
pharmacological and nutritional perspectives for the
treatment of leptin resistance that concurs with obesity.
