ABSTRACT
Introduction: the use of the eponym in medicine was imposed by tradition and use, what it proved its usefulness in everyday clinical practice, facilitated communication between pairs and constituted a tribute to the clinical wisdom and the capacity of observation of their discoverers.
Objective: to describe the history notes of the eponymous in Cuba.
Development: it is supposed the contents of an eponym is well known, its use represents an economy in medical communication; if is not used, in each case a relatively extensive description of the disease and the sign is made.
Conclusions: the eponymous is a lesson in the history of medicine that allows the understanding of evolution, the past, the present of universal medicine and the development of their specialties.
