ABSTRACT
We present a case report of a second case of chickenpox in an immunocompetent adult. The patient is a nurse in
the area of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine in a High Specialty Hospital of Mexico City. The clinical picture began
with malaise and slight hyaline rhinorrhea, adding, 48 hours later, maculopapular lesions predominating in the
face, neck and lower torso. Two pearly vesicular lesions were observed in the upper back. When questioned, she
reported a history of close contact with two cases of chickenpox. The diagnosis was confirmed in the patient, based
on signs and symptoms of the clinical profile, the epidemiological history of contact, and the serological test for
antibodies to varicella-zoster virus (VZV) by enzyme immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
