ABSTRACT
Surgical treatment of bronchogenic tumors poses a special challenge for the anesthesiologist, due to impairment in ventilation that may occur when the bronchi or trachea are disrupted during surgery. Basic pathophysiological principles are imperative to put forward a perioperative anesthetic plan, having in mind the physiologic changes resulting from certain maneuvers performed during surgical and anesthetic procedures, such as lateral decubitus, loss of pleural pressure and pulmonary collapse. A case report of a patient scheduled for resection of a bronchogenic tumor is presented. Literature on similar cases is reviewed to compare the anesthetic interventions and their results.
