Type 1 Pyloric Atresia in Homozygous Twins. Case Report and Literature Review

ABSTRACT
Congenital pyloric atresia is a rare condition that has an incidence of 1:100,000 live births. The disease is inherited with
an autosomal recessive pattern and it can be the only pathology in a patient or be associated with other malformations,
there are three types of pyloric atresia. We are presenting the case of male homozygous twins with 30 weeks of
gestational age that seek medical attention for presenting difficulty breathing and abdominal distention. Both presented
single air bubble in abdominal x ray with no air or contrast agent passage. Endoscopy revealed complete pyloric
membrane. Heinecke Mikulicz pyloroplasty was performed. Twin number 1 was deceased as a complication of sepsis,
and twin number 2 progressed well and was discharged from the hospital. Patients presented in this case report had no
family history of this disease or associated malformations and no risk factors. This is the first case report in homozygous
twins.
