ABSTRACT
The diabetic foot is considered a worldwide health problem that causes a high number
of admissions in hospital services. A descriptive and reptrospective research aimed at
characterizing the behavior of this disease was performed. In this work the patients
admitted at this Service during a period of 15 months with the diagnosis of diabetic
foot according to Wagner's classification in Angiology and Vascular Surgery Service of
the Fermín Valdez Domínguez Military Hospital were studied. The diabetic foot I
represented 53% of patients. Female patients between 51 to 60 years predominated.
The degrees 2 and 1 according to Wagner's classification represented a higher
incidence. Fourty one operations were done, and a half of them were necreptomies.
There was a tendency to give conservative surgical treatment , and a poor use of
vascular surgical procedures was observed.
