ABSTRACT

A 17-years-old male with non-coronary aneurysm of sinus of Valsalva with right cavity rupture, at the same time presented interauricular communication, which is not a common association, requiring surgical correction. Despite having a low incidence, a timely diagnosis is important since a satisfactory evolution depends on it. Any delay causes severe irreversible changes to the ventricular function. The congenital aneurysm of sinus of Valsalva, mostly on the coronary right sinus, is an infrequent malformation with a male/female 3:1 ratio. The malformation consists on the separation or lack of fusion between the tunica media and the fibrous ring of the aortic valve. When there is a rupture, it tends to be to the right ventricle, but when the coronary sinus is affected, the fistula may drain to the right auricle. This aneurysm is frequently associated to other congenital heart anomalies, among the following: Interventricular septum defects, bicuspid aortic valve, quadricuspid aortic valve, coarctation of the aorta, pulmonary stenosis, subclavian artery and common carotid coming directly from the aorta, interauricular communication and birth heart anomalies.
