Cutaneous-hematogenous sporotrichosis

ABSTRACT

Cutaneous-hematogenous sporotrichosis is an unfrequent (1-2%) clinical presentation, generally associated to weakening diseases. We present the case of a 58 year-old female with disseminated violaceous plaques associated to type 2 diabetes mellitus. The clinical diagnosis was suggestive of cutaneous-hematogenous sporotrichosis, which was confirmed through skin cultures and positive skin test to sporotrichin M. The patient was initially treated with potassium iodide that had to be discontinued due to side effects. Treatment was then started with itraconazole (300 mg/day) with dose reduction during 3 months, with a good clinical and mycologic response.
