ABSTRACT
Chronic Kidney disease wich merits replacement therapy of renal function, is a chronic disease with a mayor impact on quality of life. A prospective cross study was conducted from May 1, 2012 to Jun 1, 2012 to patients with chronic kidney disease of any etiology enrolled in hemodialysis at the Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad de Oaxaca. KDQOL (Kidney Disease Quality Of Life) questionnaire was applied. The patients were divided in two groups according to the received session number (two and three sessions per week). The results were classified according to the score obtained in poor, fair, good, very good and excellent quality of life related to health. Categorical variables were presented as simple frequencies and proportions; and scalar variables are presented as mean, plus or minus standard deviation. Bivariate analysis was performed and compared the scores in each of the domains of the Kidney Disease Quality Of Life questionnaire according to the number of sessions using the chi square test. The questionnaire was administered to 26 (86.6%) patients in the study period and concluded successfully. The mean age was 39.5 ± 16.7, with male prevalence (53.8%). The quality of life related to health in general was very good (52.4%); in this way, regarding the number of sessions we found that the quality of life related to health was good (77.7%) in the group of two sessions per week and very good (79.1%) in the group of three sessions per week (p = 0.001). This study shows the differences in quality of life related to health in the generic and specific aspect, according to the number of received hemodialysis sessions per week, assessed using a validated tool and aimed at patients with chronic kidney disease replacement therapy. Quality of life in general is very good; no statistically significant differences were found regarding the number of hemodialysis sessions per week.REFERENCES
