ABSTRACT
It is a non-specific pathological condition, systemic and potentially reversible; resulting in poor utilization of nutrients by the body’s cells which is accompanied by various clinical manifestations related to various ecological factors, and it is of varying degrees of intensity. This is currently a worldwide health problem. In Mexico it is still present in up to 17% of the population. It is suggested that the classification and management of malnutrition is performed as follows: A: Full anthropometry, consisting of weight, height, head circumference, upper and lower segments folds. B: Biochemistry, according to the average life of the markers: albumin, prealbumin, retinol binding protein and transferrin. C: Clinical, identify universal signs, circumstantial and aggregates of malnutrition; clinical marasmus, kwashiorkor or mixed. And in timing and severity by index Waterlow by weight for height indices (% W / Wh) and height for age (% T / A): normal, acute malnourished, chronically undernourished and malnourished chronic recovered sharpened. D: Diet depending on the proper classification, the goal of treatment will initially take the patient to carry the weight for biological age, which corresponds according to size.
