ABSTRACT
Background: renal calculus disease during pregnancy is an infrequent occurrence, complicates 1 of every 1500 pregnancies. Nonetheless, it’s the most painful non obstetric condition during pregnancy requiring hospitalization. The renal colic is still a difficult and controversial issue in which imaging studies play a crucial role. Objective: To review our experiences with diagnosis and management of symptomatic nephrolithiasis complicating pregnancy we reviewed the literature and attempted to define the roles and indications of management. Methods: We retrospectively review the hospital admissions between 6 years of 38 patients at Hospital General de México. In all instances the diagnosis was confirmed on imaging studies, and some therapeutics methods. Results: The age average was of 29 years with ranges from 25 to 34 years, the pain was the predominant symptom in 100 % followed by urinary irritative symptoms in 15 (41 %), fever in 15 cases, threat of premature childbirth in 3 and spontaneous abortion in only a case. They found only a solitary calculous in 25 and multiple in only 4 cases with size average of 7.6mm, the location of the same was: 11 in distal ureter, 7 in proximal ureter, 4 in the ureteropielic and 7 in the renal pelvis. Conclusion: The knowledge and comprehension of the changes in the urinary tract, as well as the correct use of imaging studies and therapeutic procedures will lead us to the resolution in the majority of the lithiasic problems with a suitable margin of safety so much for the mother as the son.REFERENCES
