ABSTRACT
Purpose. Present the different
pathological entities that
condition duodenal obstruction
in pediatrics, and their clinical,
radiological, and surgical correlation.
Material and method. We
reviewed clinical files with diagnosis
of duodenal obstruction in
pediatric patients at Hospital San
Jose Tec de Monterrey, identifying
multiple causes based on
surgical reports and the imaging
methods used for diagnosis.
Results. Patients were identified
with obstructive disorders
of the duodenum; duodenal
atresia, duodenal membrane,
annular pancreas, duodenal
duplication cyst, preduodenal
portal vein, Ladd band compression,
and intestinal malrotation
and volvulus.
Discussion and conclusion.
The “double bubble sign”
finding represents an obstructive
pattern in the duodenum.
Because obstruction constitutes
a surgical emergency of diverse
etiology, it is important to know
its clinical forms of presentation
and take into account the radiological
findings and diagnoses
established in this article.
