ABSTRACT
The ears of mice from MRL strain and adult in mice from Balb-c and B6 strains shows a regenerative response, when they are drilled in the central area. Because in mammals the regenerative capacity is limited, the mice ear´s has become an attractive model to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms that induce regenerative response. These studies, barely emerging, have revealed the importance of Extracellular Matrix, activation of certain signaling pathways and DNA repair during the regenerative process in the mouse ear. This review describes the morphologic and histological appearance that occurs during the regeneration of the mouse and rabbit ears and are mentioned several studies establishing some cellular and molecular processes that control regeneration of this anatomical region.
