ABSTRACT
The growth of the population, has bring as consequence the increment of traumatic and /or degenerative diseases, that involve the shoulder joint; occupating a preponderant place the rotator cuff lesions.
Objectives: to determine the utility of the ultrasound in the lesion of the rotator cuff, correlating with MRI findings in the ABC Medical Center.
Methods and materials: 18 patients selected from the orthopaedic and trauma consult with clinical diagnosis of rotator cuff lesion, which protocol of study included: clinical history, ultrasound and MRI of the shoulder.
Results: our study demonstrated that the ultrasound is of greater utility in the diagnosis of the rotator cuff lesions, and the findings are similar as those in MRI.
Conclusions: the ultrasound is an essential complement in the evaluation of the rotator cuff lesions, because it´s non invasive, low cost, and available for every patient; currently is rarely utilized by radiologists and ultrasonographists which is way we think that its important the adequate diffusion to better the quality in the diagnosis.
