ABSTRACT
This paper exposes a general context of some youth cultural expressions in Guadalajara, to take aware about the significant cultural diversity among the contemporary young people in this city. With ethnographic field work and the analysis of the mass media, especially local newspapers we identified the cultural origins of these youth expressions, and the social control of youth to reproduce a self image of these young people as example of “social pathologies”. The social ignorance (society, mass media, and local authorities) about these youth expressions tries to convert them into manifestations that “must disappear”, denying the cultural rights of the youth to express themselves, and to enjoy their own choice.
