Medical treatment of postsurgical osteoporotic fractures

ABSTRACT

It is common that elderly people present osteoporosis associated with fractures; specially due to surgical treatment in hip fractures, this situation can be improved if medical intervention for osteoporosis is done in early adulthood. Thru this study we found that Bisphosphonates are not always the first choice for initial treatment. Being knowledgeable of better alternatives and selecting the best one for each patient is essential.
This paper is a review of osteoporosis, risk factors, diagnosis and therapeutics, it includes an algorithm for proper recognition of the disease and proposes adequate treatments.
