ABSTRACT
Stenosing tenosynovitis or “trigger” thumb is a condition that frequently appears in childhood, where there is an abnormality in flexion at the interphalangeal joint of unknown etiology that is often associated with a fibrous nodule at the metacarpophalangeal joint. In order to provide appropiate treatment is important to know this pathology. The diagnosis is based on an adequate physical examination, knowing well the anatomy related. The treatment by surgical approach has proven effective for the patient in this study, providing the same prompt recovery without further complications in the short and long term, also considering that surgical treatment allows us to offer the patient a quick recovery of the functional limitations as well as the motor limitations of this condition. Our study demonstrates that the time elapsed between a period of 6 months to 6 years from the moment of diagnosis to the surgical approach of it, less than 4% of the cases studied had spontaneous resolution. This research was carried out retrospectively in which 96 patients with affected thumbs ranging in age from 10 months to 11 years were evaluated.
