ABSTRACT
The study of DNA fragmentation of the spermatozoa in assisted reproduction is currently considered a complementary tool in the evaluation of the quality of the patient semen. Nevertheless no isolated parameter of sperm study itself is considered an absolute diagnostic value. The DNA fragmentation index (DFI) allows determining fertilization capacity of the spermatozoa. Many studies have demonstrated in infertile males that an elevated DFI index of their spermatozoids correlates directly with a bad embryo quality, low implantation rate and low healthy term-pregnancy rate.
