ABSTRACT
High-dose chemotherapy followed by hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is currently an essential therapeutic resource in the practice of modern medicine; it is the standard treatment of patients with multiple myeloma and high-risk or relapsed lymphomas. In order to avoid hemorrhagic complications and treat anemia, patients who undergo this kind of treatment, require transfusion of blood products with packed red blood cells and / or platelets. Jehovah’s witnesses refuse blood and blood derivates transfusions because of religious beliefs turning the treatment of hematologic patients in a real challenge. This paper describes the protocol used in an autologous bone marrow transplant in a Jehovah witness patient with a relapsed Hodgkin´s disease.
