ABSTRACT
Since it was established in 1986, the Dr. Luis Sánchez Medal Award has recognized the scientific work of Mexican hematologists/scientists working in Mexico. This award distinguishes scientific articles published by hematologists in world-class scientific journals, thus, serving as evidence of the quality of the research performed by Mexican hematologists. This award, however, also shows that the size of the scientifically active hematologic community is rather small. These observations indicate the necessity to establish the right conditions, so that Mexican hematologists will learn how to do research and how to publish it. Undoubtedly, doing high-quality research will result in a much better clinical practice.
