ABSTRACT

Leadership is a valuable human personality characteristic mainly acquired, not genetic. It requires permanent efforts and commitment in order to provide exquisite knowledge, experience, initiative and ethics ; the last is not universal but extremely uneven considering different moral scales that regulate social behavior. Most medical opinion leaders become reproducers and supporters of curative health models, highly mercantilist and inefficient, instead of preventive health system promoters, able to preclude diseases, keeping people healthy. Haematology opinion leaders activity implies diagnostic, therapeutic, teaching and investigation skills and, since most of the research activity in hematology in México is not precisely of high quality, most opinion leaders in Mexican hematology depend on transnational drug companies, being obedient and focused on market businesses requirements rather than science development.
