ABSTRACT
The Cytochromes P450 (CYP450) are the principal enzymes of phase I involved in the metabolism of xenobiotics and endogenous substrates. CYP450 1, 2 and 3 families play a crucial role in the metabolism and excretion of drugs. Members of CYP450 1 and 2 are absent or in low concentration in fetal stage; their expression are increased after birth until they reach the highest quantity in the adult phase. While members of the family CYP450 3 are the major CYP450 in human liver at all stages of development. Changes in expression of CYP450 in different period of human development can contribute to drug response and/or toxicological effects of them. This review integrates information about the expression of CYP450 enzymes hepatic during fetal development to adulthood.
