ABSTRACT

Background: Cataract is the first cause of reversible blindness in the world, one of the most common surgeries of the anterior segment and at the same time one of the most controversial issues of ophthalmology in the last 50 years. Objective. Assessing the impact of cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation in patients over 60 years of age from the determination of postoperative visual acuity in relation to dynamic refraction. Methodology: A descriptive study. The sample included 760 patients who underwent the surgical technique with intraocular lens implantation and met the inclusion criteria in the province of Sancti Spiritus. Results. Male sex predominated. The highest incidence was found in the group aged 80 and over. Senile cataract was the most frequent finding and complications included posterior capsule rupture with or without the presence of vitreous. Conclusions. The postoperative visual outcome of cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation was successful in elderly people from Sancti Spiritus.
