Variation in the number of lymphocytes in University students under stress

ABSTRACT
Introduction. Stressful situations faced by college students especially during examination periods adversely affect the immune response evidenced by the decrease in the number of lymphocytes and its consequent effect on health.
Objetives. analyze the immune response of the students of the School of Bioanalysis during a situation of academic stress, in this case the exams period.
Material and methods. The type of study was comparative cross-sectional, not experimental, was conducted during April and May 2008, the sample size was 38 students enrolled in different semesters selected through stratified sampling and evaluated on two occasions: examination and non examination periods. The lymphocyte account was immunological variable evaluated an auto informed questionary about stress was applied.
Results and Conclusions. Under a stressful situation, students present a tendency decrease in the recount of their total lymphocytes compared whith those before academic stress.
