ABSTRACT
Hip dislocation is not a frequent complication following a hip hemiarthroplasty or total hip arthroplasty, the prevalence is 3% and can be as high as 26% after a revision arthroplasty. The objective of the present study was to determine of incidence of dislocation after a total hip arthroplasty or hip hemiarthroplasty in the ABC Hospital. From January of 1999 to July of 2001 we analized 327 surgical procedures, 140 from hip hemiarthroplasty and 187 from total hip arthroplasty. We found the incidence of dislocation from hip hemiarthroplasties 2.14%, the incidence for total hip 3.05% and 7.3% for revision arthroplasties. These results are similar to those reported in the world literature.
