ABSTRACT
The history of The American British Cowdray since its origin as the American Hospital starts on December 12th 1886 in Gabino Barreda street number 34 San Rafael, Mexico City and the creation of the Cowdray Sanatory by Weetman Dickinson Pearson (Lord Cowdray) and Annie Cass (Lady Cowdray married in 1881), opened November 11th 1923 located in Calzada Nueva de Chapultepec a Tacubaya (nowadays Mariano Escobedo). On February 27th 1941 representatives of both hospitals announced a fusion to create The American British Cowdray Hospital private assistance institution since then regulated by a board of trustees of altruistic profile. On November 30th 1964 the new building of 13,000 m2 in Observatorio Ave. was inaugurated. On January 7th 1997 the institution changed its name to «ABC Medical Center», as it became a center of medical specialties. Campus Santa Fe opened its doors in 2004. On December 17th 2007 the Gyn/Obs and Pediatrics Center was inaugurated in that campus. The ABC Center for Cancer opened in 2009 at Campus Observatorio, and on May 3rd 2011 the Neurology, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Center was inaugurated at Campus Santa Fe. We also recall the creation of the Medical Association later ABC Medical College, the notorious participation of the board of trustees, the Pink-Ladies, Anales Médicos magazine, learning and Investigation department and the assistance work thru BRIMEX clinic (Clinica Amistad Britanico-mexicana). The ABC Medical Center IAP has no ownership or share holders that pursue utilities, its assets are reinvested in the hospital’s programs: learning, assistance, research and equipment; it’s an institution dedicated to achieve excellence in promoting, restoring and maintaining health. It offers safe quality services and its focus on the patient has been its signature characteristic for 125 years.REFERENCES
