ABSTRACT
Objective: To inform of the case of a patient with stenosis of the transverse colon due to a solitary colonic ulcer. Setting: General Surgery Service of the ABC Medical Center, Mexico City. Case report: 68 years old female with chronic intake of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and history of bowel habit changes, epigastric pain, anemia and a weight loss of 20 kg in the past 6 months. A CT scan showed no significant lesions. The barium enema revealed a transverse colon stenosis and colonoscopy showed a solitary colonic ulcer. Biopsies were negative for malignancy. She underwent laparotomy. A sealed ulcer in the transverse colon was found and right hemicolectomy was done. Pathology reported a sealed solitary ulcer due to ischemia. Conclusions: The solitary colonic ulcer is an infrequent pathology with no specific symptoms and a differential diagnosis with cancer should be done.REFERENCES
