ABSTRACT
Malignant melanoma is a tumor most often arised within epidermal melanocytes of the skin, although they can also derive from non cutaneous melanocytes such as those lining the choroidal layer of the eye, gastro intestinal tract and genital mucosal surfaces, or the meninges.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 123 histopathology reports from malignant melanoma over the period of time from 2001 to 2007. We point out: age, gender, skin or other organ, metastasis. Breslow and Clark classification, as well as inmuno histhochemistry studies.
Results: Of the 123 reports we found 63 male patients and 60 female, the age range was from 19 to 97 years. 73 cases were primary, 61 were skin tumors and 12 were found in other organs than skin. 30 were nodes metastases, and 20 were not. Clark III was predominant and Breslow 2.
Conclusions: Compared with other studies in México, we found rather a high frequency as well as uncommon sites of extra skin melanomas.
