ABSTRACT
The
Rickettsias are microorganisms that share characteristics of both bacteria and virus. They usually live in insects as mites, ticks, fleas or lice. Human infection is caused by the bite of these insects that act as a reservoir. The
Rickettsias may give rise to various infectious diseases. The case presented corresponds to an infectious disease (mediterranean spotted fever), caused by
Rickettsia conorii and transmitted by the dog tick. It usually has a benign course, although in 10-20% of cases there may be a serious course with severe multiorganic failure.
