ABSTRACT
The inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) are considered essentially as pediatric diseases, but nowadays due to medicine advancement, the cohorts of these pediatric patients are surviving beyond childhood and are reaching adolescence and adulthood. The transition from the clinical pediatric care to adult care implies new challenges for internist. The objective of these paper is to update the knowledge of internist in this field with some of the clinical features of Phenylketonuria (PKU), one of the most frequent IEM of amino acids, highlighting its main complications in the adult patient an some recommendation for the best clinical care.
