ABSTRACT
A descriptive, retrospective and transversal study was performed at “Dr. Miguel Enríquez” University Hospital of Havana, in the period from January 2000 to December 2007 with the aim of characterizing the different types of colorectal polyps through endoscopic clinical diagnosis in patients undergoing therapeutic colonoscopy (polypectomy). The universe consisted of all patients who were identified the presence of colorectal polyps, which were a total 361. The sample consisted of 290 patients undergoing therapeutic colonoscopy accounted for 80.33% of all patients and of these 595 polyps were removed. In the series significantly predominated those over 70 years and male sex. The most frequent clinical manifestations leading to indicate colonoscopy were: changes in bowel habits, abdominal pain and rectorrhage. Sessile polyps were the most common, they were found more frequently in the region of the sigmoid and rectum.REFERENCES
