A strategy to decrease the mother mortality

ABSTRACT
Introduction: it is necessary the study of the extremely severe maternal morbidity (ESMM) to complement the researches on maternal mortality, as well as the epidemiologic surveillance of these cases as a strategy for actions proposed by PAHO/ HWO in Millennium Summit to decrease the maternal mortality in 2015.
Objectives: to update and to incorporate the new concept of ESMM in our daily practice.
Methods: A national and international review on this subject. A detailed analysis of the research on ESMM in selected Latin American institutions in 2008. The value of nee indicators related to these affections is explored.
Results: in our environment authors analyzed the features preventing the appropriate identification of cases and its timely treatment.
Conclusions: a proposal of solutions is carried out for the work os specialist charged of severe patients care and also on the organization features in our institutions.
