ABSTRACT
Cytology for the study of the cervix has been used for over 70 years and has substantially contributed to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer. Since the introduction of the Pap test in developed countries, cervical cancer cases have fallen by 70%. Most cervical cancers have a long pre-invasive stage that can be detected easily with a good endocervix cell sample and from the transformation zone. Material and methods: This study was conducted, using the sampling cell polyethylene brush and Ayre spatula in the same patient in order to compare the quality of cells with both instruments. “Group A”: Polyethylen Brush cytology and “Group B”: Ayre spatula cytology. Results: We studied a total of 3932 samples (slides) obtained de1966 patients. In Group A found a greater number of lamellae with ectocervical cells (P ‹0.05) in relation to the number of slides with endocervical cells was higher in group B (P ‹0.05). In group A were obtained as much as lamellae with adequate sample containing the two cell types in the cervix (P ‹0.05). Conclusions: The cervical cytology samples are of better quality when taken with the brush of polietyleno compared with Ayre spatula since most samples contain endoandectocervical cells.REFERENCES
