ABSTRACT
Introduction: Crohn´s disease is considered to be suffered by teens and young adults, although lately, nearby 50% of the cases reported are detected during childhood. Estimated frequency is 3 of 10,000 births.
Case report: We present the case of an 8-year-old child whose symptoms are classical, he began 8 months previous to his hospital appointment with abdominal pain, diarrhea with mucus, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, and anemia. He was under several treatments without improvement. He was sent to the 20 de Noviembre National Medical Center, then submitted to a systematic study, finding by contrasts studies, endoscopy, histopathologic studies, and surgery a fibrostenotic form of Crohn´s disease of the ileocolic region.
Discussion: No medical or surgical treatment is curative. We provide discussion of the classification of this pathology and ethiology of the anemia. A systematic approach should always be used to avoid delay of diagnosis and to offer effective treatment.
