ABSTRACT
Breastfeeding is recommended as the first food should receive newborns and exclusively breastfed the first 6 months and can continue until age 2. Its importance stems from studies that show it can reduce mortality in children under 5 by 13%, being more evident its importance in the early stages of life even in times reducing mortality in infants under 2 months and its effect protector is shown until after the year. However, in Mexico only 22.3% of children exclusively breastfed at 6 months. The reasons: lack of awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding, consider that milk production is insufficient to meet the requirements of infants, lack of knowledge of the practical aspects for a successful start and lack of support for the mother has problems with breastfeeding. Responding to this last point is created for Breastfeeding Association, a national body consisting of members of various health professions, whose goal is to make breastfeeding training for health staff to promote it, support and protected. The advanced course was structured to support breastfeeding (CAALMA) of 10 hours and from 2007 until 2010 there have been 122 courses, training people in the area of 7.107 health throughout the Mexican Republic. In support there was a film promoting and supporting breastfeeding and Human Lactation book that captures the Mexican experience in the various topics of breastfeeding. Congress has made 2 admissions and has an online session each month with the Ciberpeds group, with 30 sessions and attendance of 3,000 pediatricians in Mexico and Latin America.REFERENCES
