Impact of non-pharmacological treatment of overweight patients cared for by interns of Nutrition at the Hospital Regional ISSSTE Merida

ABSTRACT
Background: The world’s epidemic of obesity affects about 70% of Mexican population, strongly associated to Diabetes Mellitus 2, Arterial Hypertension and Cancer and increase of cardiovascular mobility and mortality, The World Organization of Health recommend the implementation of effective programs for the control of weight to reduce the risks and to promote a healthy life.
Objective: To reduce the index IBM of overweight patients with dietetic measures in an external consultation attended by last year student’s that have ended the career of Nutrition in the Regional Hospital Merida of the ISSSTE.
Material and methods: We make a longitudinal, retrospective and observational study, in the Regional Hospital Merida ISSSTE, in adult patients.
Results: 361 patients were evaluated in external consultation of nutrition; masculine 21.8% and feminine 78.11%, with average age 51.3 years, sent from the service of Medicine, Rheumatology, Endocrinology and Psychology, most them were teachers and housewives and pensioned, 33% had overweight, 32% obesity degree I and 17% obesity degree II; 71% of them lost weight, 19.9% did not have changes and 9% I gain weight.
Conclusion: The student’s nutrition consults for the treatment and control of obese patients is a good way to improve his quality of live ant to prevent complications and comorbility.
