Snail ingestion alimentary allergy (Hellix aspersa). A male mexican patient

ABSTRACT

This is a case-report from a male ten-year old mexican patient. The patient developed two events of acute asthmatic crisis and hive (urtication) secondary to snail ingestion, with a previous record of sensitization to mites too. The disorder was proved through a skin test and an Radioallergosorbent Test (RAST). A treatment by immunotherapy was applied, after which there was a second more serious event. This report presents a review of studies from patients with immunotherapy to mites, which may develop even more serious events as a consequence of the ingestion of food coming from invertebrates (mollusks).
