ABSTRACT
Amalgam tattoo, local argyrosis or amalgam pigmentation is a discoloration caused by the iatrogenic implantation of amalgam into soft tissues. While literature refers many considerations to make an easy diagnosis: presence of radiopaque particles on mandibular mucosa location in proximity to restorations with this material and history of surgical procedures near those, four cases of amalgam tattoo after retrograde root filling are presented, where the maxillar location, no-adjacency of amalgam restorations, gradual increase of the pigmentation and smaller and virtually unperceivable radiopacity show necessary clinical, radiographical and histological considerations to diagnosis.
