ABSTRACT
Objective. To compare postoperatvie analgesia effectiveness with the administration of a local anesthetic by regional anesthesia technique in the surgery of thoracic member.
Material and methods. We compared the effectiveness of the local administration of two local anesthetics: bupivacaine 5% and ropivacaine 7.5% in 30 patients 50% female , 50% male, their age from 18 to 71 years old, and with an ASA classification from I to 3. These patients were divided in two groups (the control group with bupivacaine, and the experimental group with ropivacaine). Statistic analysis was performed with the collected data by independent groups, using the U Man Whitney test with an alpha value less than 0.5.
Results. the latency of motor and sensitive blockade was similar in both groups; although motor blockade was prolonged in the ropivacaine group, an average of 11±2.1 hours, versus ropivacaine group with 3± 0.6 hours. Postquirurgical Postoperative analgesia was of 8 ±2.7 hours in the bupivacaine group versus ropivacaine group of 18±3.1 hours (p ‹.001).
Conclusions. Although both local anesthetics are a good option, ropivacaina provides a better postoperative analgesia in our patientes.
