Congenital Tuberculosis: A Case Report and Literature Review

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Infections by M. tuberculosis is a disease despite of being one of first aisle agents and counts with an effective antimicrobial treatment continues to be a serious health problem and in 1993 the WHO decl ared a “global emergency” and in the last decade has surged even in developed countries.
Case Report: A twelve day female newborn with a familial history of miliar tuberculosis, that lived and comes from a region of previous tuberculosis case reports, on admission clinical examination the patient had fever, nausea, vomit, rhinorrea and certain breathing difficulty, also the patient was pale, hypotrophic, with intercostals retractions and on auscultation with basal fine rales, and was hospitalized and treated with triple antifimic drugs.
Discussion: Congenital tuberculosis is difficult to diagnose, in this case our patient meet the Cantwell criteria and had a good clinical response and outcome.
Conclusion: In countries as ours with scarce diagnostic tools and when public health resources are limited, to establish a congenital tuberculosis continues to be a great challenge
