ABSTRACT
Introduction: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is characterized by a reversible left ventricular dysfunction and electrocardiographic changes that may mimic an acute coronary syndrome. It is associated with significant coronary obstruction and extensive and transient abnormalities of left ventricular wall motion. There have been many reports of cases in different regions of the world, so we try to offer an approach to the issue through this review. Objective: To deepen into the diagnostic criteria and therapeutic approach to this syndrome, making an assessment of real conditions in different care settings in the province of Sancti Spiritus. Conclusions: The syndrome develops as an acute myocardial infarction with ST-segment elevation and evolution in most cases is benign. Diagnosis in primary and secondary care in our province is limited on many occasions by lack of invasive coronary angiography studies that can help rule out coronary artery occlusion.
