ABSTRACT
Case presentation: We report the case of an 8 year-old girl with a history of head trauma with right parietal injury at the age of 2 years, who developed chronic sepsis, despite different treatments; she was brought to the University Hospital of Butare in Rwanda in a stupor, with a left hemiplegia and a statement of her general status. She had a CT scan of the skull in which there was an image of a brain abscess in the right hemisphere. The patient had a surgical intervention. After draining the abscess, a 7cm piece of wood was found inside the brain parenchyma. The foreign body was removed and after completing medical treatment, the patient recovered well. This case is a novelty because it is unusual for a foreign body to pass through the intracranial cavity after a mild head injury and stay there for 6 years.
Conclusions: The patient progressed favorably without postoperative complications, was discharged after completing the antibiotic treatment and a significant improvement of the hemiplegia was found. Anticonvulsant therapy and physiotherapy were prescribed.
